Health Promoting Foods The platform for 'Health Promoting Foods' continues to build momentum with key hires, laboratory renovations and scientific communication. Dr. Indika Edirisignhe from the University of Rochester will join the team on March 31st, 2008. Dr. Edirisinghe is a biochemist and molecular biologist with extensive experience and expertise in lipid biochemistry and endothelial function. He uses multiple in vitro and in vivo approaches to study the effectiveness and mechanism of action of food properties and compounds that will allow the Center to provide its stakeholders evidenced-based input for strategic implementation. Laboratory capability for basic science and clinical research will be on-line this spring. This capability, will add human clinical testing of food and food ingredients and biological endpoint analysis to existing Center expertise.  Communication activities this quarter included participation and invited speaker presentations by NCFST's Dr. Britt Burton-Freeman at the World Processing Tomato Council in Sacramento, CA, the California Strawberry Commission's Annual meeting in San Diego, CA and the American Dietetic Association and Porter Novelli's FOOD 3000, in Budapest, Hungary. Upcoming presentations in April include Experimental Biology '08, the International Association of Culinary Professionals and the American Society for Clinical Investigation.
